Bloodstone Succulent

This short caudiciform grows up to 11 feet (3.4 meters) tall. The asymmetrical stem is gold, and is dotted with small vibrant red spines. It has a angular, thin, grey trunk atop a slender block of ridged, exposed roots. The branches are thin and gray-green and are tall, rigid and upright.

The irregular-edged, long, tapering leaves are blood red and slate. They are light, but do not detach easily.

It is fast growing, taking 6 months to reach maturity. Once mature, a single flower with solid black petals and a purple central disk grows at the top, reappearing once every 10 years. The flower head is shaped like a cup with 23 tightly layered, round-tipped petals. It has a weak scent that smells like old books.

The caudiciform's skin is thin, the hazel flesh is rubbery, and the olive sap is thin.
