Magenta Hazelfruit

This average-sized fruit tree grows up to 16 feet (4.9 meters) tall and lives for up to 35 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 60 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a very thick, straight trunk covered in silky, yellow bark, and inside, the light wood is light brown.

The abundance of branches are very long and thin and are covered with very large amounts of giant, needle-like leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are magenta on the edges and hazel at the center.

In early spring, it produces thousands of tiny, cream blossoms with perforated petals with a tube-like floral cup. They detach easily and have a faint scent that smells like alcohol.

In late autumn it produces small, fan-like fruit. The leathery peach skin is thin and sweet and sour, and the very soft brilliant purple flesh is spicy and salty and syrupy. The beige seeds are tiny and are scattered throughout the fruit.

The roots are thick and spread across the surface, as well as underground, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with patches of undergrowth between them.
