Copperbark honeysuckle

This big shrub grows up to 9 feet (2.7 meters) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 198 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has numerous flexible, straight stems covered in thick, cracked, copper-coloured bark, and the wood inside is white.

The branches are short stubs that and are covered with handfuls of large, very thin, leaves with wavy edges. The leaves themselves are either light green or aquamarine, with brown lines, tough and smooth.

It produces copious amounts of large, deep red flowers with slender, pointed petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They fall easily and have a strong scent that smells like honeysuckle. In mid-summer it forms smalllight brown, shelled seeds.
