Burgundy Willow

Shrub type: Deciduous (Stores water in its stem)

This giant shrub grows up to 11 feet (3.4 meters) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 122 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has many slender, curved stems covered in delicate, rough, burgundy and brown bark, and the wood inside is light brown.

The branches are short and thick with thousands of twigs that and are covered with large amounts of small, very thick, leaves with tattered edges. The leaves themselves are green with cyan tips, robust and crispy.

It produces handfuls of large, beige flowers with heart-shaped shaped petals. They are hardy and have an intensely strong scent that smells like varnish. In early winter it forms medium-sizedblack, shelled seeds.
