Waterstem Sunflower

Flower type: Perennial (Stores water in its stem)

This short flower grows up to 5 inches (13 cm) tall. Its yellow-green stems grow from the base of the plant in bunches of 4 and are thick and straight, and split into numerous branching stems at the top, and the small, gray or white leaves are circular with toothed edges. The leaves grow from the base and are the same length as the stem.

Lots of medium-sized flowers grow in a bunch at the end of the stem. The flowers are 13 cm (5.1 inches) wide, with solid cream petals and a vivid orange central disk. The flower head is shaped like a dish with 18 tightly layered, round-tipped petals. They are sturdy.

It has a delicate scent that smells like misty mornings, and it has copious amounts of pollen. It is a self-pollinator, but is also visited by some specific types of insect.
