Blueberry Plum

This small fruit tree grows up to 6 feet (1.8 meters) tall and lives for up to 30 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 62 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a thick, straight trunk covered in thick, wrinkled, mahogany-coloured bark, and inside, the light wood is pine-coloured.

The numerous branches are long and thin and are covered with thick bunches of large, spear shaped leaves with tattered edges. The leaves themselves are copper at the bottom and cream with dark grey lines at the top.

In early spring, it produces a thick sheet of small, bold purple blossoms with broad, flat petals. They are very delicate and have a delicate scent that smells like marzipan.

In early autumn it produces , needle-like fruit. The crispy sky blue skin is stretchy and inedible, and the very soft peach flesh is bitter and salty and powdery. The caramel seed is tiny and is in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with clear space between them.
