Clinging Vineflower

This small flower grows up to 6 inches (15 cm) tall. Its burgundy stem is very thick, and the huge, purple leaves are perforated with toothed edges. 21 leaves grow at the base of the stem.

Each stem splits 6 to 11 times; a single large flower grows at the end of each split. The flowers are 11 cm (4.3 inches) wide, with petals that are either white or purple, with a yellow center. The flower head is an uncoordinated mess of up to 10 petals. They fall easily.

It has an intense scent that smells like fresh linen, and it has lots of pollen; it can can cause allergic reactions. It is pollinated by a small species of bird, but is enjoyed by several specific types of insect.
