Amber Spine Succulent

Succulent type: Leaf succulent (Stores water in its leaves)

This enormous leaf succulent grows up to 141 feet (43.0 meters) tall. The pleated stem is red, and is covered in thick bunches of rigid amber spines. The rounded leaves are peach and bronze. Sparse amounts of them grow on bulbous, green branches that are tall, rigid and upright. The leaves are sturdy, and easily come away when pulled.

It is slow growing, taking 44 years to reach maturity. Once mature, and only under the right conditions, a handful of flowers, with alternating petals of pale red and olive, with a violet central disk, grow at the top, reappearing after 10 years, but only when the conditions are right again. The flower head is shaped like a cup made up of dozens of widely spaced, round-tipped petals. It has a mildly strong scent that smells like faeces.

The leaf succulent's skin is thick, the slate flesh is waxy, and the blue sap is thin.

It coexists peacefully with other plants.
It is very resistant to fire damage.
