Crimson Vine Oak

Tree type: Deciduous (Grows upwards by clinging to almost any surface.)

This big tree grows up to 65 meters (213.3 feet) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 94 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a narrow, straight trunk covered in thick, cracked, dark brown bark, and inside, the light wood is burgundy-brown.

The small bunches of branches trail down towards the ground and are covered with very large amounts of fuzzy, small, fan-like leaves with rounded edges. The leaves themselves are light brown and crimson.

In early spring, it produces large amounts of medium-sized, crimson blossoms with needle-like petals with a tube-like floral cup. They are hardy and have the faintest scent that smells like onion.

In late summer it forms medium-sized, red, shelled seeds.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with patches of undergrowth between them.

It spreads easily and often blanket large areas.
