Burgundy Silkfern

Shrub type: Deciduous (Grows along the ground or other low surfaces.)

This short shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for around 60 years. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has many stocky, straight stems covered in thick, silky, burgundy bark, and the wood inside is pale yellow.

The branches are short, rigid and upright that and are covered with large amounts of miniature, sickle shaped, leaves with rounded edges. The leaves themselves are drab purple and azure, frail and soft.

It produces many clusters of medium-sized, slate flowers with slender, pointed petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They are hardy and have a powerful scent that smells like musk. In early winter it forms giantcream, tough-shelled seeds.

It coexists peacefully with other plants.
