Violet Spikegrass

Grass type: Biennial (Stores water in its stem)

This modest-sized, pink-red grass grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall. The stiff, pointed stalks grow in large clumps that are sturdy and flexible and they are exceptionally hardy.

When mature, the end of the stem eventually transforms into a tiny, violet tuft.

During the mid-summer, it produces excessive amounts of pollen, and after flowering, it is left with a handful of small grains.

The pollen is overwhelmingly toxic to people but not to certain animals.
It is suitable for creating tough, hard-wearing textiles
