Clinging Orangevine

This small fruit tree grows up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 35 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 48 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has a slender, slanted trunk covered in smooth, burgundy and brown bark, and inside, the soft wood is light brown.

The branches trail down across the ground and are covered with thick bunches of tiny, 2 pointed leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are red and dark brown.

In early spring, it produces large amounts of large, light orange blossoms with finger-like petals with a tube-like floral cup. They are hardy and have an intense scent that smells like pine needles.

In late summer it produces tiny, perforated fruit. The rough caramel skin is stretchy and inedible, and the very soft purple flesh is sweet and dry. The bronze seed is small and is in the centre of the fruit.

The roots grow as a near perfect mirror of the tree above, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with patches of undergrowth between them.
