Blood Trumpet

Flower type: Annual (Grows along the ground or other low surfaces.)

This big flower grows up to 5.9 feet (1.8 meters) tall. Its green stem is thin, and the tiny, silver leaves are long, narrow with rounded edges. Many leaves grow at the base of the stem, and a pair of leaves grow at the base of the flower head.

6 to 8 tiny flowers grow on alternate sides up the length of the stem. The flowers are 32 cm (12.6 inches) wide, with petals that are generally beige; each flower tends to be a variation of this colour. The flower head is shaped like a trumpet made up of several widely spaced, narrow petals. They are hardy.

It has a powerful scent that smells like blood, and it has an average amount of pollen. It is pollinated by insects and is visited by a large variety of them.
