Crimson Crescent

This small caudiciform grows up to 2 feet (61.0 cm) tall. The finger-like stem is orange-yellow, and is covered in brittle dark grey spines. The round, light brown trunk can grow to as much as 2 feet (61.0 cm) in diameter. Its brown branches are short and thick.

The jagged-edged, crescent-shaped leaves are yellow-green with crimson tips. They are robust, and detach easily.

It is very slow growing, taking 18 years to reach maturity. Once mature, and only under the right conditions, a single flower with solid red petals decorated with cream dots and a peach central disk grows at the top, reappearing after 7 years, but only when the conditions are right again. The flower head is an uncoordinated mess of up to 50 curved petals. It has a powerful scent that smells like candle wax.

The caudiciform's skin is thin, the intense purple flesh is waxy, and the orange sap is thin.
