Bloodbloom

Shrub type: Coniferous (Grows along the ground or other low surfaces.)

This big shrub grows up to 8 feet (2.4 meters) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 136 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has numerous stocky, angular stems covered in thin, wrinkled, dark gray bark, and the wood inside is copper-coloured.

The branches are short, rigid and upright with hundreds of twigs that and are covered with small amounts of giant, stiff, pointed, leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are magenta on the sides and blood red at the center, light and leathery.

In early summer it produces a thick sheet of large, violet blossoms with sickle shaped petals. They are very delicate and have a strong scent that smells like meat.

In late winter small circular fruits ripen. The smooth grey skin is stretchy and overwhelmingly savoury, and the very soft magenta flesh is sweet and powdery. The cream seeds are large and are bunched at the top of the fruit.

It aggressively steals nutrients from other large plants (but not each other).
Offering it in a bouquet is supposed to bring good luck.
