Clinging Orange Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Grows upwards by clinging to almost any surface.)

This huge fruit tree grows up to 46 feet (14.0 meters) tall and lives for up to 45 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 54 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a knobbly, wonky trunk covered in thick, rough, burgundy bark, and inside, the hard wood is yellow-brown.

The thick clumps of branches trail down across the ground and are covered with small amounts of giant, slender, pointed leaves with tattered edges. The leaves themselves are black at the bottom and slate with violet edges at the top.

In early spring, it produces a thick sheet of large, drab orange blossoms with spear shaped petals. They fall easily and have a weak scent that smells like cotton.

In late autumn it produces large, perforated fruit. The fuzzy gold skin is tough and sweet, and the crunchy caramel flesh is salty and dry. The grey seed is very large and sits at the end of the fruit.

The roots grow as a near perfect mirror of the tree above, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with the space between filled with undergrowth.

It is suitable for creating fine, soft textiles
It is said to be able to live for hundreds of years.
It is possible to grow it from cuttings.
