Clinging Emberbloom

Shrub type: Deciduous (Grows upwards by clinging to almost any surface.)

This huge shrub grows up to 10 feet (3.0 meters) tall and lives for around 97 years. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has many thick, angular stems covered in thin, cracked, burgundy and brown bark, and the wood inside is burgundy-brown.

The branches are very short and thin that and are covered with copious amounts of small, pleated, leaves with rounded edges. The leaves themselves are blood red on the edges and peach at the center, flimsy and waxy.

In early summer it produces a handful of large, orange blossoms with finger-like petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They are hardy and have a delicate scent that smells like fresh linen.

In early winter tiny oblong fruits ripen. The sticky drab orange skin is thin and edible when roasted; it is spicy and salty, and the slightly crunchy caramel flesh is sweet and savoury and powdery. The gentle orange seed is small and sits at the top of the fruit.
