Breadflower

This enormous flower grows up to 15.7 feet (4.8 meters) tall. Its pink-red stem is thick and splits into several branching stems at the base, and the large, red leaves are sickle shaped with smooth edges. Many leaves grow at the base of the stem, and a pair of leaves grow at the base of the flower head.

Each stem splits 1 to 4 times; a single giant flower grows at the end of each split. The flowers are 30 cm (11.8 inches) wide, with alternating petals of gold and purple, with a brown central disk. The flower head is an uncoordinated mess of 31 petals. They detach easily.

It has an overpowering scent that smells like freshly baked bread, and it has copious amounts of pollen. It is pollinated by a small species of bird, but is also visited by a variety of insects.
