Slate Spine Cactus

Succulent type: Stem succulent (Stores water in its stem)

This small cactus grows up to 11 feet (3.4 meters) tall. It splits near the top to form 6 spear shaped stems. Each stem is moss green, and is covered in hundreds of rigid slate spines.

It is steady-growing, taking 13 months to reach maturity. Once mature, a handful of flowers, with alternating petals of sky blue and green, with a yellow central disk, grow at the top, reappearing once every 3 years. The flower head is largely flat with several widely spaced narrow petals. It has a soft scent that smells like misty mornings.

The cactus's skin is thin, the grey flesh is waxy, and the hazel sap is thin and causes severe cramps if consumed.
