Vinefruit Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Grows upwards by winding itself around other objects and plants.)

This small fruit tree grows up to 9 feet (2.7 meters) tall and lives for up to 30 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 48 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a branched, straight trunk covered in paper-thin, knobbly, burgundy bark, and inside, the very dense wood is yellow-brown.

The branches are short stubs and are covered with small amounts of tiny, very narrow and elongated leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are solid purple or turquoise, with blue zig-zags.

In early spring, it produces handfuls of medium-sized, bronze blossoms with stiff, pointed petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They detach easily and have an overpowering scent that smells like new carpet.

In early winter it produces small, oval fruit. The rough blue skin is thin and sour, and the slightly crunchy yellow flesh is spicy and sticky. The caramel seed is tiny and is in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.

It is almost impossible to grow indoors.
It is said to be able to live for hundreds of years.
