Clinging Bluefruit

This short fruit tree grows up to 8 feet (2.4 meters) tall and lives for up to 40 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 72 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a sturdy, angular trunk covered in paper-thin, ridged, burgundy bark, and inside, the very hard wood is yellow-brown.

The branches trail down towards the ground and are covered with copious amounts of giant, wispy leaves with tattered edges. The leaves themselves are blue and blood red.

In early spring, it produces copious amounts of large, muted blue blossoms with oblong petals. They detach easily and have a strong scent that smells like an ocean breeze.

In late autumn it produces small, asymmetrical fruit. The rubbery copper skin is tough and sour, and the crunchy yellow flesh is salty and sticky. The red seed is large and sits at the end of the fruit.

The roots are long and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with patches of undergrowth between them.
