Twining Pinefern

This modest-sized shrub grows up to 2 feet (61.0 cm) tall and lives for around 47 years. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has numerous wide, slanted stems covered in wrinkled, brown-green bark, and the wood inside is black.

The branches trail down towards the ground that and are covered with small bunches of tiny, wispy, leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are slate and hazel, flexible and soft.

In early summer it produces a thick sheet of medium-sized, indigo blossoms with 9 V-shaped shaped petals. They are sturdy and have an overpowering scent that smells like rainy days.

In early autumn spear-shaped fruits ripen. The fuzzy dull green skin is delicate and bitter and sour, and the crunchy brown flesh is savoury and powdery. The caramel seed is small and sits at the end of the fruit.
