Bluebell Fruit Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This modest-sized fruit tree grows up to 14 feet (4.3 meters) tall and lives for up to 35 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 77 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has a flexible, straight trunk covered in very thick, wrinkled, brown and grey bark, and inside, the very dense wood is black with white speckles.

The branches are long and thin and are covered with large amounts of miniature, fan-like leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are indigo and dark brown.

In early spring, it produces large amounts of large, orange blossoms with sickle shaped petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They fall easily and have a weak scent that smells like mango.

In early winter it produces , slender, 5 pointed fruit. The leathery turquoise skin is delicate and edible when boiled; it is sweet, and the soft sky blue flesh is sweet and spicy and dry. The light red seed is very large and sits at the top of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with patches of undergrowth between them.
