Twistwood Tree

This small fruit tree grows up to 8 feet (2.4 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 30 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a sturdy, twisting trunk covered in hard, ridged, brown bark, and inside, the very dense wood is pale brown-grey.

The branches are short, rigid and upright and are covered with handfuls of miniature, very thin leaves with ripped edges. The leaves themselves are pink and amber.

In early spring, it produces dozens of small, drab yellow blossoms with needle-like petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They are hardy and have an intensely strong scent that smells like faeces.

In early winter it produces tiny, slender, 5 pointed fruit. The smooth slate skin is delicate and inedible, and the slightly crunchy yellow flesh is sweet and oily. The brown seed is small and is in the centre of the fruit.

The roots spread far and go deep underground, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
