Clinging Emberflower

Flower type: Biennial (Grows upwards by clinging to almost any surface.)

This large flower grows up to 5.1 feet (1.5 meters) tall. Its emerald stem is very thick, and the huge, yellow-green leaves are slender, pointed with wavy edges. The leaves alternate on the stem.

2 to 7 medium-sized flowers grow on alternate sides up the length of the stem. The flowers are 75 cm (29.5 inches) wide, with magenta petals on the lower layer and pale red petals decorated with dark brown dots on the inner layer. The central disk is violet. The flower head is an uncoordinated mess of 48 curved petals. They detach easily.

It has an intense scent that smells like bonfire smoke, and it has lots of pollen. It is a self-pollinator and is ignored by most insect species.

It can survive a very long time without water.
