Sickleleaf Bluefruit Tree

This average-sized fruit tree grows up to 19 feet (5.8 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 27 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has a sturdy, straight trunk covered in ridged, dark gray bark, and inside, the very hard wood is pale brown.

The small bunches of branches are tall, rigid and upright and are covered with very large amounts of large, sickle shaped leaves with ripped edges. The leaves themselves are pale purple and beige.

In early spring, it produces a handful of giant, sky blue blossoms with 5 heart-shaped shaped petals. They detach easily and have an intense scent that smells like a newborn baby.

In late autumn it produces , perforated fruit. The rough silver skin is thin and edible when boiled; it is sweet, and the crunchy ashy orange flesh is spicy and savoury and oily. The gold seed is very large and sits at the top of the fruit.

The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with patches of undergrowth between them.
