Burgundy Sunflower

Flower type: Annual (Grows the first year, flowers the second year, then dies)

This average-sized flower grows up to 8 inches (20 cm) tall. Its yellow stem is very thick, and the huge, burgundy leaves are asymmetrical with smooth edges. Many leaves grow along the entire length of the stem.

Each stem splits 2 to 8 times; a single tiny flower grows at the end of each split. The flowers are 40 cm (15.7 inches) wide, with green petals that gradient shift to blood red on the outer edge. The central disk is silver. The flower head is made up of 56 petals; the lower layer of petals are flat, while the upper layers form a tight tube. They detach easily.

It has the faintest scent that smells like leather, and it has lots of pollen. It is a self-pollinator and is ignored by most insect species.

The colour changes depends on whether the soil is acidic or alkaline.
It is possible to grow it from cuttings.
It is suitable for creating fine, soft textiles
