Climbing Vanillafern

Shrub type: Deciduous (Grows upwards by winding itself around other objects and plants.)

This small shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for around 79 years. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has numerous flexible, slanted stems covered in ridged, black with white speckled bark, and the wood inside is pale brown-grey.

The branches are very short and slender with dozens of twigs that and are covered with thick bunches of miniature, sickle shaped, leaves with rounded edges. The leaves themselves are a shade of yellow-green that gradient shifts to gold at the top, rigid and waxy.

In early spring it produces hundreds of tiny, white flowers with 7 pointed petals. They are hardy and have a powerful scent that smells like vanilla.
