Bloodfire Tree

Fruit Tree type: Coniferous (Stores water in its stem)

This short fruit tree grows up to 8 feet (2.4 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 60 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a branched, straight trunk covered in very thick, ridged, brown and grey bark, and inside, the dense wood is brown.

The branches are long and thin and are covered with small amounts of giant, asymmetrical leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are amber and blood red.

In early spring, it produces a handful of giant, silver blossoms with 5 pointed petals with a tube-like floral cup. They are hardy and have a mildly strong scent that smells like warm milk.

In late autumn it produces large, oblong fruit. The hairy green skin is peel-able and inedible, and the crunchy blood red flesh is sweet and spicy and very dry. The blood red seeds are large and are located in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with clear space between them.

It has impressive regenerative properties.
