Canyon Lily

This enormous flower grows up to 12.8 feet (3.9 meters) tall. Its lime green stem is very thick and splits into 5 branching stems a quarter of the way up, and the huge, orange leaves are dark burgundy on the underside and are slender, pointed with rounded edges. Many leaves grow at the base of the stem, and more leaves alternate on the stem from about halfway up, up to the flower head.

A single small flower sits at the end of each stem. The flowers are 41 cm (16.1 inches) wide, with solid cyan petals and a caramel central disk. The flower head is shaped like a trumpet with 13 raised, round-tipped petals. They are hardy.

It has a soft scent that smells like baby powder, and it has very little pollen; it does not cause any allergic reactions. It is pollinated by insects and is particularly attractive to butterflies.
