Thornberry Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in its leaves)

This short fruit tree grows up to 7 feet (2.1 meters) tall and lives for up to 10 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 16 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a stocky, wavy trunk covered in delicate, smooth, dark brown bark, and inside, the flexible wood is burgundy.

The small bunches of branches trail down across the ground and are covered with small amounts of giant, spear shaped leaves with ripped edges. The leaves themselves are found in bronze and black varieties.

In early spring, it produces thick bunches of medium-sized, gentle green blossoms with 9 crescent-shaped shaped petals. They are very delicate and have a weak scent that smells like alcohol.

In mid-summer it produces , perforated fruit. The leathery dark grey skin is tough and sour and savoury, and the very soft lilac flesh is overwhelmingly sweet and very juicy. The dark grey seeds are large and are scattered throughout the fruit.

The roots are thick and spread across the surface, as well as underground, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with the space between filled with undergrowth.

It is suitable for creating fine, soft textiles
