Bloodbloom

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in its leaves)

This short fruit tree grows up to 8 feet (2.4 meters) tall and lives for up to 40 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 53 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a slender, straight trunk covered in delicate, cracked, brown and grey bark, and inside, the soft wood is pale brown-grey.

The small handful of branches trail down towards the ground and are covered with very large amounts of small, long, tapering leaves with ripped edges. The leaves themselves are ashy purple and orange.

In early spring, it produces thousands of small, black blossoms with many layers of petals with a tube-like floral cup. They are hardy and have an overpowering scent that smells like blood.

In mid-summer it produces , broad, flat fruit. The sticky hazel skin is delicate and edible when roasted; it is sweet and spicy, and the slightly crunchy cream flesh is sour and sticky. The slate seed is tiny and sits at the end of the fruit.

The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with clear space between them.

It is suitable for creating strong, durable textiles
Their seeds have hallucinogenic properties.
