Bloodfruit Tree

This small fruit tree grows up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 37 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has a long and flexible, crooked trunk covered in ridged, gray bark, and inside, the dense wood is gray.

The branches are short stubs and are covered with large amounts of huge, long, narrow leaves with tattered edges. The leaves themselves are drab green with orange tips.

In early spring, it produces handfuls of small, grey blossoms with 4 umbrella-shaped shaped petals. They fall easily and have a scent whose strength depends on external factors, such as soil quality and rain frequency that smells like blood.

In early summer it produces tiny, circular fruit. The smooth silver skin is stretchy and inedible, and the very soft caramel flesh is spicy and sticky. The white seed is tiny and sits at the end of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
