Coffee Blossom Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Grows along the ground or other low surfaces.)

This short fruit tree grows up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 38 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a wide, straight trunk covered in thick, waxy, silver bark, and inside, the light wood is white with black speckles.

The numerous branches are long, thin and wispy and are covered with small amounts of tiny, sickle shaped leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are turquoise and amber.

In early spring, it produces handfuls of medium-sized, red blossoms with finger-like petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They are sturdy and have an overpowering scent that smells like coffee.

In early summer it produces small, pleated fruit. The crispy slate skin is stretchy and inedible, and the soft dark grey flesh is sour and oily. The pastel green seeds are small and are bunched at the bottom of the fruit.

The roots grow as a near perfect mirror of the tree above, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with the space between filled with undergrowth.

It usually houses a colony of beneficial insects.
It can absorb up to 10 times its own weight in water.
