Blue Crimson Spineplant

Succulent type: Leaf succulent (Stores water in its leaves)

This short leaf succulent grows up to 6 feet (1.8 meters) tall. The needle-like stem is amber, and is covered in sharp spines. The toothed-edged, finger-like leaves are solid subtle blue with crimson zig-zags. Small amounts of them grow from the base in alternating layers of 2, then 4, then 6, and so on. The leaves are fairly frail, but are very difficult to pull away.

It is steady-growing, taking 5 years to reach maturity. Once mature, and only under the right conditions, a single flower with solid cream petals and a blue central disk grows at the top, reappearing after 9 years, but only when the conditions are right again. The flower head is an uncoordinated mess of up to 60 curved petals. It has a fairly strong scent that smells like varnish.

The leaf succulent's skin is delicate, the beige flesh is leathery, and the dark grey sap is thin.

It is suitable for use as a construction material
It aggressively steals nutrients from other large plants (but not each other).
