Bloodfire Agave

This short leaf succulent grows up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) tall. The pleated stem is copper, and is covered in hundreds of rigid blood red spines. The jagged-edged, spear shaped leaves are olive with grey tips. Small bunches of them grow from the base in tight-packed layers. The leaves are strong, but are very difficult to pull away.

It is steady-growing, taking 2 years to reach maturity. Once mature, a handful of flowers, with each petal a slightly different shade of bronze, grow at the top, reappearing once every 7 years. The flower head is shaped like a sphere with 36 tightly layered, narrow petals. It has an intense scent that smells like fruity.

The leaf succulent's skin is extremely thick, the hazel flesh is sticky, and the yellow sap is thin and can cause blindness if consumed.
