Claspvine Fruit Tree

This average-sized fruit tree grows up to 17 feet (5.2 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 34 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has a thick, crooked trunk covered in delicate, smooth, light gray bark, and inside, the soft wood is pale brown-grey.

The extensive patches of branches are short stubs and are covered with thick bunches of tiny, long, narrow leaves with toothed edges. The leaves themselves are solid turquoise or cream, with dark grey edges.

In early spring, it produces a thick sheet of medium-sized, amber blossoms with asymmetrical petals with a tube-like floral cup. They are sturdy and have a faint scent that smells like burning wood.

In early autumn it produces small, circular fruit. The leathery brown skin is stretchy and edible when roasted; it is salty, and the slightly crunchy silver flesh is sweet and very juicy. The gold seed is very large and is in the centre of the fruit.

The roots grow as a near perfect mirror of the tree above, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with clear space between them.
