Spicewood Tree

This massive fruit tree grows up to 55 feet (16.8 meters) tall and lives for up to 45 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 77 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a branched, slanted trunk covered in hard, silky, burgundy and brown bark, and inside, the medium-dense wood is black.

The thin clumps of branches trail down towards the ground and are covered with large amounts of small, stiff, pointed leaves with serrated edges. The leaves themselves are solid dark brown with green edges.

In early spring, it produces many bunches of medium-sized, pink blossoms with asymmetrical petals with a tube-like floral cup. They detach easily and have a scent whose strength depends on external factors, such as soil quality and rain frequency that smells like cherry.

In early autumn it produces , finger-like fruit. The smooth amber skin is delicate and edible when roasted; it is spicy, and the very soft purple flesh is sweet and spicy and dry. The caramel seed is large and sits at the end of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with clear space between them.
