Entwining Copperbark

Tree type: Deciduous (Grows upwards by winding itself around other objects and plants.)

This small tree grows up to 5 meters (16.4 feet) tall and lives for centuries, with the oldest known specimen being around 474 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a branched, straight trunk covered in fine, cracked, copper-coloured bark, and inside, the flexible wood is burgundy.

The numerous branches are tall, rigid and upright and are covered with thick bunches of fuzzy, tiny, pleated leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are either vivid orange, or crimson with deep yellow edges.

In early spring, it produces handfuls of tiny, violet blossoms with V-shaped shaped petals. They detach easily and have an overpowering scent that smells like cheap aftershave.

In late summer it forms medium-sized, cream, shelled seeds.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with grassy ground between them.

It is suitable for making baskets and the like
It is very rare outside of a particular area.
It can survive a long time without water.
The grains are bitter, but very healthy and very salty.
