Turquoise Fan Palm

This modest-sized caudiciform grows up to 36 feet (11.0 meters) tall. The wide stem is yellow, and is covered in sharp spines. The very thick, hazel trunk can grow to as much as 36 feet (11.0 meters) in diameter. Its orange branches are short stubs.

The toothed-edged, fan-like leaves are light yellow and cream. They are delicate, but detach easily.

It is steady-growing, taking 3 years to reach maturity. Once mature, and only under the right conditions, several flowers with each petal a slightly different shade of turquoise grow at the top, reappearing after 9 years, but only when the conditions are right again. The flower head is shaped like a bowl with 16 widely spaced, round-tipped petals. It has a strong scent that smells like baby powder.

The caudiciform's skin is thick, the bold purple flesh is soft, and the grey sap is thin.
