Bloodspine Succulent
Succulent type: Caudiciform (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)This modest-sized caudiciform grows up to 58 feet (17.7 meters) tall. The pleated stem is gray, and is covered in thousands of fine, blood red, hair-like spines. It has a curved, thin, hazel trunk atop a flat web of rough, exposed roots. The branches are thick and washed-out purple or light grey and are short stubs.
The smooth-edged, circular leaves are olive on the edges and cyan at the center. They are flexible, and take some effort to detach.
It is quick growing, taking 5 months to reach maturity. Once mature, a handful of flowers, with petals that are bronze at the sides and white at the center, grow at the top, reappearing once every 3 years. The flower head is largely flat with 47 raised narrow petals. It has a scent whose strength depends on external factors, such as soil quality and rain frequency that smells like varnish.
The caudiciform's skin is thick, the intense red flesh is leathery, and the yellow sap is thin.
