Copperfruit Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in its stem)

This giant fruit tree grows up to 60 feet (18.3 meters) tall and lives for up to 10 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 26 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a flexible, angular trunk covered in knobbly, copper-coloured bark, and inside, the medium-dense wood is yellow.

The small handful of branches are long and thick and are covered with thick bunches of miniature, slender, pointed leaves with ripped edges. The leaves themselves are solid yellow with beige zig-zags.

In early spring, it produces several large, pink blossoms with 8 triangular shaped petals. They detach easily and have a weak scent that smells like cheap aftershave.

In early autumn it produces , oval fruit. The smooth aquamarine skin is thick and sweet, and the very soft blood red flesh is savoury and dry. The hazel seed is large and sits at the top of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
