Coilflower

Flower type: Perennial (Grows upwards by winding itself around other objects and plants.)

This average-sized flower grows up to 1.7 feet (51 cm) tall. Its yellow stems grow from the base of the plant in bunches of 4 and are very thin and straight, and split into many branching stems at the top, and the giant, yellow leaves are fan-like with smooth edges. Many leaves grow at the base of the stem, and more leaves grow in pairs along the length of the stem.

5 to 7 giant flowers grow on alternate sides up the length of the stem. The flowers are 22 cm (8.7 inches) wide, with caramel petals that gradient shift to copper on the outer edge. The central disk is indigo. The flower head is an uncoordinated mess of up to 30 curved petals. They detach easily.

It has a faint scent that smells like sugar, and it has very little pollen. It is pollinated by the wind, but is also visited by one species of insect in particular.

Several parts of the leaf succulent have medicinal properties.
