Copper Spine Cactus
Succulent type: Stem succulent (Stores water in its stem)This modest-sized cactus grows up to 31 feet (9.4 meters) tall. The pleated stem is copper, and is covered in handfuls of flexible light brown spines.
It is steady-growing, taking 7 months to reach maturity. Once mature, a handful of flowers, with petals that are red in the center, white in the middle and violet at the edges, grow at the top, reappearing once every 3 years. The flower head is largely flat with 35 raised round-tipped petals. It has an intense scent that smells like mango.
The cactus's skin is thin, the lime flesh is rough, and the magenta sap is thin and causes severe cramps if consumed.
