Copperfruit Tree

Fruit Tree type: Coniferous (Grows along the ground or other low surfaces.)

This big fruit tree grows up to 30 feet (9.1 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 28 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has a wide, straight trunk covered in delicate, wrinkled, copper-coloured bark, and inside, the medium-dense wood is yellow-brown.

The excessive amount of branches are very long, thin and wispy and are covered with small amounts of tiny, needle-like leaves with toothed edges. The leaves themselves are either dark grey, or pink with green patches.

In early spring, it produces a handful of large, black blossoms with teardrop-shaped shaped petals. They detach easily and have an overpowering scent that smells like rich perfume.

In late summer it produces small, 5 pointed fruit. The crispy copper skin is tough and sweet, and the slightly crunchy pink flesh is sweet and very juicy. The silver seeds are large and are dotted around on the skin of the fruit.

The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with clear space between them.

The pollen is extremely toxic to people but not to certain animals.
It is almost impossible to grow indoors.
