Claspvine Fruit Tree

This short fruit tree grows up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 40 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 65 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a knobbly, straight trunk covered in thin, smooth, pine-coloured bark, and inside, the medium-dense wood is dark brown.

The tangled mess of branches are long and slender and are covered with very large amounts of giant, thick leaves with ripped edges. The leaves themselves are olive on the edges and copper at the center.

In early spring, it produces dozens of tiny, amber blossoms with spear shaped petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They are very delicate and have a weak scent that smells like rotten egg.

In late summer it produces , needle-like fruit. The rough faded orange skin is peel-able and inedible, and the crunchy pink flesh is savoury and oily. The intense green seeds are tiny and are scattered throughout the fruit.

The roots form a tightly packed ball, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
