Burgundy Starflower

This average-sized flower grows up to 2.0 feet (61 cm) tall. Its burgundy stem is thick and straight with a curved tip, and the large, orange-yellow leaves are perforated with smooth edges. Many leaves grow at the base of the stem, and more leaves alternate on the stem from about halfway up, up to the flower head.

Dozens of small flowers grow along the length of the stem. The flowers are 3 cm (1.2 inches) wide, with green petals that gradient shift to black on the outer edge. The central disk is florescent blue. The flower head is shaped like a star with 13 raised, narrow petals. They are sturdy.

It has a scent whose strength depends on external factors, such as soil quality and rain frequency that smells like blood, and it has an average amount of pollen; it can cause severe allergic reactions. It is pollinated by insects and is enjoyed by several specific types of insect.
