Clinging Bluefruit Tree

This enormous fruit tree grows up to 70 feet (21.3 meters) tall and lives for up to 35 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 65 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a sturdy, straight trunk covered in smooth, silver bark, and inside, the dense wood is gray.

The numerous branches trail down to the ground and are covered with copious amounts of miniature, fan-like leaves with serrated edges. The leaves themselves are solid blue with cream lines.

In early spring, it produces copious amounts of medium-sized, purple blossoms with pleated petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They fall easily and have an intense scent that smells like soap.

In early autumn it produces tiny, spherical fruit. The crispy caramel skin is delicate and inedible, and the slightly crunchy black flesh is extremely sweet and juicy. The lime seeds are tiny and are located in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are thick and spread across the surface, as well as underground, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
