Burgundy Splitflower

This modest-sized flower grows up to 1.9 feet (58 cm) tall. Its burgundy stem is thick and splits into dozens of branching stems a quarter of the way up, and the tiny, green leaves are perforated with smooth edges. A pair of leaves grow at the base of the flower head.

Each stem splits 3 to 5 times; a single tiny flower grows at the end of each split. The flowers are 38 cm (15.0 inches) wide, with alternating petals of slate and faded orange, with a gold central disk. The flower head is an uncoordinated mess of up to 20 petals. They are sturdy.

It has an intensely strong scent that smells like alcohol, and it has lots of pollen,but it does not cause many allergic reactions. It is pollinated by insects , but only one species in particular.
