Silver Needle Shrub

Shrub type: Deciduous (Grows along the ground or other low surfaces.)

This average-sized shrub grows up to 3 feet (91.4 cm) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 157 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has many sturdy, straight stems covered in hard, silky, silver bark, and the wood inside is light brown.

The branches are short, rigid and upright with thousands of twigs that and are covered with large amounts of large, needle-like, leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are found in silver, magenta and silver varieties, fairly frail and waxy.

In mid-summer it produces bunches of small, hazel flowers with finger-like petals with a tube-like floral cup. They detach easily and have a delicate scent that smells like ashes.
